MADE IN GHANA

Ghana is known for many things, but don't forget to mention the country's talented Artisans! From the North to the East, sustainable art ranges from grass made shopper bags to fences curated out of coconut tree leaves. Utilizing natural resources has been a delicacy in the country for decades. Ghana has made a name for itself when it comes to its handmade gems, The Bolga hat and Bolga bag, to name a few. 'Bolga' comes from the Bolgatanga Region in Northern Ghana, this is where the Bolga Artisans call home. The Bolga hat dates back for decades in Ghana as it was originally used for the local farmers to keep cool from the sun, providing a stylish and unique form of shade. The Bolga bag holds a similar story, as these bags were used for famers and those looking to store and haul locally harvested goods. Overtime these skillfully hand woven pieces have improved in design, color and texture for everyday usage. The hats and bags are constructed using a local wild savanna grass called Elephant grass. The grass is first dried then carefully rolled into two or three strand twists for a continued woven production.
